Profile photo of Dr Izhar Ali

Dr Izhar Ali

Izhar Ali is Assistant Professor of Law at Ghulam Ishaq Institute of Technology (GIK), where he teaches corporate law and professional ethics. He got his Juris Doctorate (J.D.) and LL.M. (summa cum laude ) from Ohio State University, Ohio, United States. He is a member of the American Bar Association, an Accredited Representative of the Board of Immigration Appeals in Houston, Texas, United States, and a Fulbright Scholar, currently serving on the selection committee for The U.S. Department of State Exchange Program.

Ali is admitted to practice in California. One of the leading trial lawyers, he is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He represented individuals and corporations in all phases of complex litigation in civil, criminal, immigration, and regulatory matters, including those involving integrity matters, manipulation, accounting irregularities, compliance, and other financial fraud. Along with a team of super lawyers, he successfully prosecuted Bank of America, Wells Fargo Bank, and Amtrak in regulatory, compliance, and integrity services matters. He previously worked as Attorney at Consilio, LL.C in Houston, Texas, where he was regularly privy to several alternate dispute resolution talks, and helped negotiated favourable deals for his clients. In solo practice, his strategic trial advocacy won naturalised citizenship for several clients in immigration matters.

He sets on two career trajectories, complementing passion with training. A hardcore attorney by profession, he harbours a strong instinct for teaching and training and his research interest lies at the intersection of law, ethics, and engineering. A chief exponent of ethical innovation in the corporate engineering business, he jealously knows the exact science of teaching law to engineering students. Using innovative pedagogical strategies, he teaches the wisdom of law through the quantum of engineering dynamics. In furtherance to encourage dialogue, discussion, and discourse, he walks the beginners like engineering students through the gateway of law, logically proceeds from general to particular, and revolves around the entire realm of corporate law and jurisprudence. He figuratively reinvented the wheel: by taming the otherwise inquisitive and methodical “would be” engineers into the stoic reign of law, “a legal reverse engineering” of its kind. His classroom is thus a courtroom, a high-tension laboratory, and a corporate workplace, where students get engineering legal education through an experimental learning process. He introduced engineering moot courts, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), and corporate engineering negotiation for quick engineering justice.

Izhar Ali is happily married to Laila, a beautiful countryside girl, who plays his romantic interest in complete conjugal harmony, raising a wonderful “barbie-doll” named Horanin. He loves reading. Poems and prose by Nasir Kazmi and Parveen Shakir pleasantly mark his day running. His archives catalogue hundreds of books, journals, and periodicals.

I graduated in 2016. Dedicated few years, for the preparation & learning for judiciary, before covid settled in. Done my masters in India, in corporate filed of law, with my thesis on intellectual property, 'copyright'. Throughout my graduation, I had completed several internships, from time to time, to gain practical experience of courts, law offices, tribunals, etc. After covid, I had the opportunity to begin my practice in partnership, but to explore more, I started practicing with Mohan & Co. as an associate advocate. There, I had the opportunity to represent clients, in high stake matters, before High Court, District Courts, Insolvency Courts, etc. I also had the opportunity to present our clients, against designated senior advocates, before Delhi High Court and in Arbitration. I had the privilege to be part of domestic arbitration as well as, international arbitration. Inquisitiveness led me to even explore the corporate filed of law, where working with associates of different nationalities, led me to discover my capabilities and gave me confidence to break all the barriers. And here I am, carrying my strong academic & professional experience, hunger for growth, passion for learning and with need to always work hard.

I'm currently pursuing my LL.M. in International Dispute Resolution at Humboldt University in Berlin, where my thesis explores the fascinating intersection of tax disputes and arbitration. My legal journey has taken me through both Mexico and the US, where I've built a strong foundation in tax litigation and administrative law. With experience as legal counsel at a tech startup and as a junior lawyer specializing in tax disputes at a consultancy firm, I've developed a deep understanding of cross-border legal challenges. One of my proudest moments was leading dispute resolution negotiations with US partners at Foxconn – that really opened my eyes to the excitement of international arbitration.
The Vienna Moot feels like the perfect next step in my journey, especially as I explore the arbitrability of tax disputes in my thesis work. I've always been fascinated by how different legal systems interact, particularly in complex areas like tax law. The chance to dive deep into international commercial arbitration alongside peers from around the world would be incredible. Having dealt with cross-border disputes and complex tax litigation firsthand, I've seen how crucial effective advocacy skills are in this field. The thought of testing my abilities, crafting arguments, and presenting before experienced arbitrators gives me butterflies – in the best way possible! For me, the Vienna Moot isn't just a competition; it's a chance to grow as a lawyer and take my passion for international dispute resolution to the next level.

During my studies in Vienna I developed a strong passion for Moot Courts and took part in three Moots, however not yet in the Vis Moot. After graduating I moved to Basel to work as a Teaching and Research Assistant. As part of my work I had the great honour of being Coach for the Basel Vis Moot Team for two years. For me, this meant shifting positions: Instead of being in the spotlight myself, I tried to nuture and develop young talents. Not only was this my first coaching experience but also in a field and specifically in a Moot I had not yet gained any insights into so far. Besides all the obvious rewarding aspects as learning a lot about International Commercial Law and gaining insights into International Arbitration practice and getting to know people from various cultures and legal backgrounds, I found working with the teams, especially during the Oral Phase most rewarding. It was during one of those countless pleadings in spring when I decided to come back to the Vis as Arbitrator. I really want to stay within the Vis Community and start my next chapter as an Arbitrator.

Mr A.Aydin Bulut

I'm a law student living in Norway and currently in my first year of the LLB at Richmond College in the UK. I'm looking to become an observer referee at the Vismoot. I'm building a strong academic foundation in law. My father is a lawyer, so I want to become a lawyer in the future. My interest in law stems from my long-standing curiosity about how legal systems shape societies and protect individuals. He brings a unique analytical perspective to legal debates. Living in Norway has strengthened my independence and discipline while balancing work and studies. My multicultural experience, combined with my fluency in Turkish, English, and intermediate Norwegian, allows me to approach legal matters from an international perspective. I'm particularly interested in public international law and dispute resolution and plan to further specialize in areas such as tort law and legal technology. Participating in the Vismoot represents a significant step in my legal development. I see it as a valuable opportunity to develop my research, advocacy, and teamwork skills while practicing legal reasoning on a global scale. I aim to contribute with dedication, a strong work ethic, and a genuine passion for learning.
